Sick Baby

Before we left for Austin we noticed Ava was a little stuffy in the morning, but it would clear up as the day went on. We took precautions & she slept with the humidifier last Thursday & Friday then we left for Austin. When we got back we started back with the humidifier Sunday. Then Monday she woke up & sounded terrible. I left work early to take her to the doctor. The good news is that it is not a bacterial virus/infection, but she does have a virus. We were told to let it takes its course. Well Tuesday rolls around & poor Ava couldn't sleep. She kept coughing & her nose was running. So she slept with me in the bed so I could easily pat her back to sleep each time her cough would wake her up. I took off Wednesday & we went back to the doctor. She just sounded & even looked worse, but they told me the same thing. They checked her breathing to make sure her chest wasn't tight. They told me what to watch out for, said it will pass with time, no medicine for children under 2, just use Tylenol for fever & discomfort.
So last night she slept with me again. We had the humidifier going & I propped her up on a pillow. Which means "no sleep for me." I just cant sleep well with her in the bed & especially when she is sick. This morning she was her little happy self just had a slight running nose & still a terrible cough. She just gets so mad at me when I get the aspirator after her nose. Luckily she doesn’t mind the electric aspirator I bought. It plays music, so it’s a little distracting when sucking the boogers. Lately her nick name is Ms. Ava-tude. She has learned to hide her nose, turn away, or pull back when I need to clean it. I'm just hoping it clears up really soon. I hate seeing her sick.

Class Art Work

Last week Ava's leason plan at daycare incorporated clowns. Ms. Hibiba made them all these cute little hats.

First Road Trip

We traveled to Austin to see my cousin Alayna Graduate from UT. Ava's is a great baby to travel with. We left right before her long nap, so she slept the whole way to & from Austin. During the graduation ceremony she was a very good girl. She was just checking everything out & even took a little nap. Afterwards we all went to dinner to celebrate. We had a great time. Poor little Ava was up way past her bed time, but didn’t even fuss. She finally went back to the hotel with Mimi & grandpa about 10:30 while mommy & daddy enjoyed a night out on West 6th Street with family & friends.

Home Sweet Home

We had a great weekend at home with great company. Grandpa Ricky came to visit us & spoiled us rotten. I think I gained 5lbs. He cooked a yummy dinner each night, plus mowed the yard for Ryan. Ryan & Ricky played their usual round of golf. It was a beautful weekend for it. Ms. Ava & I ran errands, cleaned the house, played, & enjoyed long afternoon naps.

3 for 3

Ava has slept through the night the past 3 nights. I put her to bed about 8 & she is out by 8:30. We have had to give her the pacifier a couple times, but its nothing like it was the 1st few nights. Her cries/screams are now just whimpers and she falls right back to sleep until I wake her up for daycare.

Ava Update:

So…..the late night feeds. Well, we started it right away. That same night Ava had a doctors appointment. Thursday & Friday I had to rock her to sleep a couple times, then finally put her in the bed with us (I know, big no. no. But it was already @ 4am & we needed sleep). I don’t know how people can do the Cry It Out method & stick to it. It was so hard to listen to her & not comfort her. Then Saturday we stayed at my parents house. She slept the whole night……but in the bed with me. Sunday rolled around & I was determined to stay strong. Hmm….not so much. I ended up sleeping on her floor. I refused to put her in our bed. So when she cried I stuck the pacifier in her mouth, patted her back to sleep, & even rocked her back to sleep. THEN…last night! I put her to bed at 8. She slept all the way through the night (with the exception of Ryan giving her the pacifier a couple of times. We are still waiting for her to grab for it on her own.) until I woke her up a little after 6. Yes, I still have to wake her up to go to daycare. Ryan doesn’t feel comfortable yet getting her ready for daycare. This will have to change soon, I hate waking her up. She looks so peaceful and not to mention super cute sleeping.

1st Mothers Day Weekend

Muffins with Mom:

Friday Ava had muffins with mom at daycare. It was really cute. I enjoyed my big blueberry muffin & the card she made me.

Villa Family Mothers Day Fiesta:

My parents hosted a mother's day party at their house. Everyone brought a Mexican dish & we played Mexican bingo (one of Grandma Rosa's favorites). We love family time! Ava is well adjusted to large groups & I even let her stay up a tad past her bedtime.

Mothers Day:

We enjoyed a late/large breakfast at my parents house. Then mom, Ava, & I went shopping. Afterwards we took family pictures (which I plan to make a family tradition) in the backyard & enjoyed fruit ice tea.
I made my mom/Mimi a basket of her favorite's. I bought a glass tea pot with built in strainer, mug, tea cookies, & several different specialty tea's. Ryan bought me a gift card to a local spa (facial, message, & foot soak)/gift card to Starbucks & parents gave me good ol cash to treat myself.
I had a fantastic 1st Mother's Day! I'm so blessed to have little Ava. She is my everything.

You can do it

Last night Ava almost rolled over. Most nights she will get as far as just laying on her side, but last night she was determined to roll over. She was almost there a couple times. Each time she was getting upset because she couldn’t get all the way around. So I finally helped her. Poor little thing was worn out & frustrated.

4 month doc visit

Well Ava is a happy, healthy, little chunk. I was concerned about her weight, but her pediatrician assured me that she is fine. Childhood obesity is not a factor right now. She is probably just taking after her daddy. Ryan was a chunky baby. However, she does want us to knock out that late night feeding by the time Ava is 5 months. She doesn’t want Ava to develop bad habits, eating out of habit/comfort & not because she is hungry. Sounds good to me! We will see how things go….

Weight 16.1lbs
Length 25 inches

Visitors

Memew & Rachael came to stay with us a couple days. We enjoyed every minute with them!!

Dogs

We usually get asked how our dogs interact with Ava. Well as you can see, Teddy sure doesn't mind having Ava around. I know once she can chase him, he will hide from her and once she can eat table foods, he will be her best bud. Then we have our 80lb lab, Boudreaux, who has become an outside dog. He just sheds too much & is too big to have inside with Ava. Poor Boudreaux!
